Learning more about how our bodies fight periodontal disease could lead to new treatments for lupus, coronary artery disease and related conditions, say two University of Louisville researchers studying the issue. Dentist

Michael Martin, assistant professor at UofL’s School of Dentistry, has identified a naturally occurring protein, GSK3, that appears to control inflammation. He is exploring whether the protein could be used to control inflammation that occurs with periodontal disease, which causes bleeding and receding gums, loosened teeth and underlying bone loss.

A better understanding of the protein’s role in controlling inflammation could lead to treatments for inflammatory diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.[tags] dentist, dental study, San Diego dentist[/tags]  Tijuana Mexico dentists

Proper care, regular dentist visits key to healthy teeth

During Matt Anderson’s last trip to the dentist the furniture paid the price. Terrified, Anderson applied a “death-grip” so tight he actually broke the arm off the dental chair.

“I know that grown men shouldn’t feel scared in the dentist’s chair, but I can’t help it after all I’ve been through,” he said.

He’s obviously not looking forward to his next visit either.

“I know I should see the dentist, but if I find out that I do need to be worked on, I don’t know if I could sit through a procedure,” said Anderson, who recently moved to Great Falls. “My wife held my hand the last time I had a cleaning.”

It’s common for adults to have child-like fears if they’ve had at least one bad experience during childhood.
