For teeth that have been damaged, suffered decay or appear discolored or misshapen, crowns are a solution. A tooth-shaped cover, a crown acts like a cap and can be made of a variety of materials, including gold and porcelain. Crowns are also used to secure a bridge, a false tooth fused between two crowns to fill in the spaced left by a missing tooth.
