What if your dentist could grow you a new set of teeth instead of having to put you in dentures?

Canadian scientists say they’ve created a pea-sized ultrasound device that will regrowth teeth in bones.

Autumn Ridge Dental’s Dr. Matt McInnes says he hopes it will be cost-effective for both the patient and the dentist.

“Anything that can help replace missing teeth is a good thing. When it comes to trauma to the teeth, it is a great option.”

McInnes says it still doesn’t mean you can neglect your teeth.

“Regardless of what you put in our mouths, it requires care. Whether it’s dentures, an implant or whether it’s fillings, they’re still susceptible to disease.”

Officials say the tool can also stimulate jawbone growth to fix a person’s crooked smile and may eventually be used to stimulate bone growth to make a person taller.

Dentist treats Mongolian childrenBY JEFF EDWARDS

More than 700 children living in Mongolian orphanages are smiling a little brighter today thanks to a Philadelphia dentist who performed free tooth extractions in May while on a mission trip.Dr. Billy G. Molpus, who has been practicing dentistry in Philadelphia since 1968, spent 17 days in the city of Darhan where he treated 727 children.

Molpus explained while there are dentists in Mongolia, the cost of an extraction is too high for most citizens to pay.

“It would cost $10 to get a tooth extracted which doesn’t seem like a lot until you consider that the monthly income of a Mongolian citizen is $30,” Molpus said. “If the tooth is rotted off and all that’s left is the roots, it will cost more than $10. As a result, a lot of people can’t afford to go to the dentist.”

Molpus’ trip was sponsored by Lifequest, a mission based in Irving, Texas.
